Now available: PLANTS FOR YOUR FOOD FOREST: 500 Plants for Temperate Food Forests and Permaculture Gardens.

An important new book from PFAF. It focuses on the attributes of plants suitable for food forests, what each can contribute to a food forest ecosystem, including carbon sequestration, and the kinds of foods they yield. The book suggests that community and small-scale food forests can provide a real alternative to intensive industrialised agriculture, and help to combat the many inter-related environmental crises that threaten the very future of life on Earth.

Cultivation details

Prefers a moderately fertile well-drained soil in a sunny position[200]. Grows well in dry situations[4]. Succeeds in maritime gardens[233]. There is some doubt over the correct name of this species. E. acris is said to be a synonym of E. acer[200], the report of edibility refers to the sub-species E. acris kamtschaticus[105]. The entry is included under E. acer but this needs further investigation. Very few members of this genus will hybridise with other members of the genus[274].
