Summary
Physical Characteristics
Myricaria germanica is a deciduous Shrub growing to 2 m (6ft 7in).
See above for USDA hardiness. It is hardy to UK zone 6. It is in flower from July to August. The species is hermaphrodite (has both male and female organs).
Suitable for: light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils and prefers well-drained soil. Suitable pH: mildly acid, neutral and basic (mildly alkaline) soils and can grow in very alkaline soils.
It cannot grow in the shade. It prefers moist soil.

Prefers a fertile well-drained soil in full sun with shelter from cold drying winds[200]. Tolerates chalk soils[200]. An easily grown plant, preferring a damp sandy soil[182]. Closely related and very similar to Tamarisk spp[182].

Propagation
Seed - sow early spring in a cold frame and only just cover the seed. When they are large enough to handle, prick the seedlings out into individual pots and grow them on in the greenhouse for at least their first winter. Plant them out into their permanent positions in late spring or early summer, after the last expected frosts. Cuttings of half-ripe wood, July/August in a frame[200]. Cuttings of mature wood of the current seasons growth, November to January in a sandy propagating mix in an open frame[11, 200].
