We have recently published ‘Food Forest Plants for Hotter Conditions’: i.e. tropical and sub-tropical regions. We rely on regular donations to keep our free database going and help fund development of this and another book we are planning on food forest plants for Mediterranean climates. Please give what you can to keep PFAF properly funded. More >>>

Plants For A Future is a resource centre for rare and unusual plants, particularly those which have edible, medicinal or other uses. We practise vegan-organic permaculture with emphasis on creating an ecologically sustainable environment based largely on perennial plants.

All Advertising revenue goes towards the cost of maintaining and developing the PFAF website and database which is available as a free resource. By advertising with us you are directly supporting PFAF and its activities.

As PFAF is a charity with strong ethical principals we are looking for advertisers with 'similar' views.

The Charity’s Objectives are to advance the education of the public by the promotion of all aspects of ecologically sustainable vegan-organic horticulture and agriculture with an emphasis on tree, shrub and other perennial species; and the undertaking of research into such horticulture and agriculture, and dissemination of the results of such research.

The website The site is divided into 4 main content areas:

• Research – Giving information about our garden 'The Field' in Cornwall, and the research we are undertaking there.

• Plant Uses – highlighting some of the more unusual edible and medicinal plants along with other uses for example, building materials, dyes, paints, inks and paper or clothing.

• Database – a search facility for our database of over 7000 useful plants with their edibility and medicinal ratings

• The site contains user-generated content with a blog, forum and plant rating system.

The site has been compiled by horticultural experts who are constantly reviewing and updating the content.

Now available: PLANTS FOR YOUR FOOD FOREST: 500 Plants for Temperate Food Forests and Permaculture Gardens.

An important new book from PFAF. It focuses on the attributes of plants suitable for food forests, what each can contribute to a food forest ecosystem, including carbon sequestration, and the kinds of foods they yield. The book suggests that community and small-scale food forests can provide a real alternative to intensive industrialised agriculture, and help to combat the many inter-related environmental crises that threaten the very future of life on Earth.
