Cultivation details
Requires a shady position in a moisture-retentive humus-rich soil[200]. Grows well in the wild garden or in shaded pockets of the rock garden, though it might need protection from competition with other more vigorous plants[200]. Plants come into new growth and flower very early in the year[200]. For polyculture design as well as the above-ground architecture (form - tree, shrub etc. and size shown above) information on the habit and root pattern is also useful and given here if available. The plant growth habit is a clumper with limited spread [1-2]. The root pattern is tuberous with swollen potato-like roots [1-2].
