Often found growing with Centaurium erythraea. Found in abundance on southern clifftops of the Isle of Wight U.K. Taste of plant is bitter suggesting a stimulating effect on the digestive tract. For an account of the effect of bitters in the digestive tract see Barker, Julian. 2001. The Medicinal Flora of Britain and Northwestern Europe page 324, Gentian family.
